We found this variety at the local farmers market from a specialized pepper farmer! We don't know the exact name but have since called it the "Upside Down Thai Chili" as it was originally sold as a "Thai Chili" but its fruit grow hanging downwards (pendant) instead of the common varieties which point to the sky. This attribute protects the fruit from our harsh Illinois sun.
Thai Chili Peppers have 1" sized fruits that are prized in a wide range of global cuisines, including Thai, Asian, African, Spanish, and Portuguese dishes. Similar to varieties that grow with fruit facing upwards, both the unripe green fruits and the fully colored red to purple peppers are commonly used. Highly prolific but compact plants produce handfuls of chili peppers by September.
Note: Please see "Plant Size" info section below. Plug sized plants are much smaller than 2.5" Pots.
